Amid the devastating floods in Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said 288 Indian nationals remain uncontactable, while 21 Indians have been rescued so far.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the preliminary figures during a briefing, outlining the groups of Indians whose whereabouts remain unknown in the flood-hit region.
Several Indian groups remain uncontactable
The uncontactable Indians include 73 people working at the Trishuli 1 power project.
Two groups from Tamil Nadu, comprising 37 and 49 people, also remain uncontactable. They had travelled through Samrat and Fly Everest Travels.
Another 32-member group from West Bengal had travelled to Rasuwa district with the help of Samrat Travels. The list also includes 61 Indian nationals from different states who travelled through Richa Tours.
A separate group of 33 Indians from Kerala is also among those whose whereabouts have not yet been established.
21 rescued, Indians seek help in Tibet
Jaiswal said 21 Indian nationals have been rescued as authorities continue relief and rescue efforts in areas affected by the floods.
The MEA also said that around 200 Indians have sought assistance in Tibet, highlighting the scale of the disruption along the Nepal-Tibet region.
The latest update comes as Nepal continues to deal with the aftermath of severe flooding that has caused widespread destruction and claimed at least 270 lives, according to the figures cited by the MEA.
Authorities are working to establish contact with those still unaccounted for and assist Indians stranded in the affected areas.
