The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, on Tuesday approved proposals worth more than ₹42,490 crore covering school education, irrigation, transport, horticulture and other development and welfare measures across the state. The largest allocation was ₹36,006.22 crore for continuation of the Centre-sponsored Samagra Shiksha scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The programme covers students from pre-primary to Class 12 and seeks to improve school education quality, learning outcomes, equity and inclusion while strengthening vocational education and teacher training.
Transport schemes extended
The Council of Ministers approved ₹1,166.60 crore for continuing 11 Transport Department schemes for five years from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031. The programmes are aimed at strengthening transport infrastructure and expanding facilities available to citizens. The Cabinet also sanctioned ₹491 crore for continuation of eight state-funded schemes in the horticulture and food processing sector over the next five years. These initiatives will focus on raising farmers’ incomes, expanding the area under horticultural crops, improving produce quality and encouraging the establishment and growth of food-processing units.
The decisions form part of the state government’s broader attempt to combine large infrastructure investments with programmes directly affecting education, agriculture and public services. The scale of the Samagra Shiksha allocation meant that school education accounted for the overwhelming share of the overall package cleared at the meeting.
₹2,607 crore for irrigation
The Cabinet approved more than ₹2,607 crore for three irrigation projects, including ₹1,846.05 crore for the Chitawad Major Irrigation Project in Ujjain district, ₹749.62 crore for the Gaund Major Irrigation Project in Singrauli and ₹11.49 crore for the Chanderi Micro Irrigation Project in Ashoknagar.
The Chitawad project is being developed on the Kshipra river near Mahidpur and is expected to provide irrigation facilities across 65,000 hectares. The Gaund project is projected to create irrigation potential over 34,500 hectares in Singrauli, while the Chanderi project is expected to extend irrigation facilities to 28,000 hectares in Ashoknagar. Together, the projects are intended to improve water availability for agriculture and expand assured irrigation across the beneficiary regions.
New government posts
The Council of Ministers also approved the creation of 21 posts for establishing district mineral offices in the newly formed districts of Maihar, Mauganj and Pandhurna. Seven posts will be created in each district to support the administration of mineral-related activities.
Another 36 regular posts were sanctioned for four upgraded high schools in Anuppur and Shahdol districts. These will include four principals, 24 secondary teachers, four primary teachers and four Assistant Grade-3 positions, providing additional staffing as the schools operate at their upgraded level.
MARKFED gets ₹2,220 crore
In another major financial decision, the Cabinet approved an interest-free loan of ₹2,220.62 crore to the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation, or MARKFED. The funds will enable the federation to repay the remaining foodgrain credit-limit loan relating to the Rabi Marketing Year 2024-25 by September 30, 2026.
The Finance Department will provide the loan while taking into account the state’s cash liquidity position and fiscal deficit limits. With approvals spanning education, irrigation, agriculture, transport and institutional financing, the ₹42,490-crore package represented a wide-ranging set of spending commitments aimed at strengthening public infrastructure while continuing major welfare and development programmes over the coming five years.
