A 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving bus in Greater Noida after the driver and conductor allegedly misled her about the vehicle’s destination, police said.
The two accused have been arrested in connection with the case. According to police, the incident took place on August 4 near Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.
The Class 11 student, who is from Mainpuri, was travelling to her cousin’s house in Sector 63, Noida. Police said she had left home on August 3 after an argument with her mother over her studies.
How the girl ended up on the bus
According to her complaint, the girl mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk after it became dark and heavy rain began. She then saw a bus approaching and signalled to the driver to stop.
An officer familiar with the investigation said the sleeper bus was empty and was returning after repairs at a workshop in Surajpur.
The conductor allegedly told the girl that the bus was heading towards Sector 63, following which she boarded the vehicle.
Police said that once the bus started moving, the conductor allegedly behaved inappropriately. The girl alleged that both men then sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she resisted.
The bus travelled around 47 km from Pari Chowk to the Ring Road near the Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal in Delhi. Police said the accused allegedly left the girl there before fleeing.
Bus travelled from Greater Noida to Delhi
According to police, the bus took the Greater Noida-Noida Expressway before entering Delhi through the Chilla border. It then passed through Mayur Vihar and travelled along the Ring Road towards Kashmere Gate.
The windows of the bus had curtains drawn across them, police said, making it difficult for people outside to see inside the vehicle.
Accused arrested within four hours
The girl approached the Kashmere Gate Police Station, where Delhi Police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for alleged gang-rape, kidnapping and assault.
Police examined CCTV footage and traced the bus to a parking area in Timarpur, around 15 minutes from Kashmere Gate. The two accused, both in their early 20s and from Kanpur, were arrested within four hours.
Police said the accused told investigators that the bus had “developed a mechanical problem” before being taken to the Surajpur workshop. An officer said, “The two decided to target her, misleading her about the destination.”
