The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday alleged that the Centre has failed to provide a written assurance guaranteeing the withdrawal of all FIRs registered against students and protesters or confirming that no action would be taken against them in the future. CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said he met government representatives at their invitation on Tuesday evening, during which officials cited the Supreme Court's Direction No. 4 permitting investigation into the existing FIRs. According to Das, the government argued that the issue had become sub judice because of the court's written order. "I asked them directly whether they would provide the guarantee in writing. We have received no response so far," he said.
Das claimed the Centre had earlier assured the CJP that the withdrawal of FIRs and the promise of no future action would apply not only in Delhi but also across BJP-ruled and NDA-governed states. He said Tuesday had been fixed as the deadline for receiving the written assurance, but no formal communication had been received before it expired. Accusing the government of backtracking on its commitments, Das warned that it was "about to commit a massive betrayal of the country's youth" by failing to honour the assurances allegedly given during negotiations.
The CJP leader said the organisation would not accept any decision that contradicted the government's earlier commitments and urged the Centre to put its assurances on record. Warning of a fresh round of agitation, Das said the party would announce another nationwide protest if the written guarantee was not provided. "We will launch a nationwide protest once again, as we remain committed to working in the best interest of students," he said.
