BJP president Nitin Nabin on Monday accused the Congress and the Samajwadi Party of adopting the British policy of “divide and rule” and said his party will not allow it to be implemented again in Uttar Pradesh “under any circumstances”.
Addressing a conference of BJP's Shakti Kendra coordinators here, Nabin also described Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Students Ki Goonj' programme as an “echo of lies”, saying that “lies do not have a long life”.
“Although the British left, first the Congress and then these socialists adopted their divide-and-rule policy. We have gathered here today to resolve that we will not allow this policy of the Congress and the SP to be implemented again in Uttar Pradesh under any circumstances,” he said.
Nabin alleged that SP leaders were travelling across Uttar Pradesh and trying to divide the state.
“The attempts by the opposition parties ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh elections need to be countered, and the state's development must not be allowed to stop,” Nabin said.
Attack on Congress, SP over backward classes
He also accused the Congress and the SP of remaining confined to a few families while speaking about backward classes and Dalits.
“Some people who even stole tap fittings are today claiming that they will form the government in the state and make the future of the youth bright. Those who only thought about the future of their families can never be concerned about Uttar Pradesh's future,” Nabin said.
Although the BJP chief didn’t take any names, his remarks were seen as a reference to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, whose name had earlier figured in a controversy related to alleged removal of tap fittings from a government residence.
Nabin invokes Ambedkar, Charan Singh
Nabin also accused the Congress of not respecting B R Ambedkar and former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, and said the BJP had honoured the two leaders.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, he said, “I ask Rahul Gandhi ji, did you ever interact with the youth of Amethi and listen to their pain? Did you do anything for their employment? If anyone did, it was the BJP.”
Referring to Gandhi's 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme, Nabin said, “Rahul Gandhi is travelling across the country echoing lies, but lies do not have a long life. Truth always wins, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the truth.”
BJP targets 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls
Nabin also claimed that the rule of law had been established in Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and called upon the party workers to work towards forming another BJP government with a strong majority in 2027.
Alleging that during previous governments, mafias exercised influence across the state, Nabin said, “But under Yogi Adityanath, no police station dares to provide protection to any criminal.”
Nabin urged the Shakti Kendra workers to strengthen the party organisation at the grassroots and said their work would contribute to the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.
He also alleged that attempts had been made to stop Kanwar Yatra and Ram Navami celebrations and appealed to party workers to strengthen their respective Shakti Kendras so that “criminals do not get a chance to rise again”.
