Air India flight AI1886, operating from Bhopal to Delhi, was diverted to Jaipur on Sunday morning after the aircraft developed a technical issue involving its left engine.
The flight was carrying passengers from Bhopal to Delhi when the issue was detected, prompting the aircraft to divert to Jaipur as a safety precaution. A full emergency was declared at Jaipur airport ahead of its landing.
The aircraft landed safely at Jaipur at around 9:40 am, with no reports of injuries among passengers or crew. Air India said the diversion was carried out in accordance with established safety procedures and that the aircraft was being subjected to necessary checks following the incident.
Aircraft undergoing safety checks
In a statement, Air India said, “Flight AI1886 operating from Bhopal to Delhi on 13 September was diverted to Jaipur due to a technical issue as per laid-down procedures.”
The airline added that the aircraft landed safely and was undergoing checks in line with its safety standards. Air India did not provide further details about the specific technical fault beyond describing it as an issue with the aircraft.
Passengers assisted in Jaipur
Following the diversion, Air India's ground team at Jaipur provided assistance to the passengers. The airline said it was making arrangements to ensure that passengers reached their destination at the earliest.
Passengers were subsequently transported to Delhi by road after the aircraft was taken for inspection. The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused by what it described as an unforeseen situation.
AI1886 is a scheduled Air India service connecting Bhopal's Raja Bhoj Airport with Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Flight-tracking records list the service as operating on an Airbus A320neo on this route.
Air India has not indicated how long the aircraft will remain grounded or whether the incident will affect subsequent operations of the flight.
