Vikrant Massey is reportedly looking to bring his on-screen world of ‘Musafir Cafe’ into real life. The actor is said to be working on plans to open two cafes, one in Himachal Pradesh and another in Uttarakhand, with both spaces expected to draw inspiration from the cafe featured in the Netflix series.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, construction work at both locations is already underway. The cafes are reportedly being planned as more than just places to eat and drink, with dedicated spaces for artists also part of the project.
Cafes to include artist residency spaces
As per the report, the two venues will have 20 rooms dedicated to artist residencies. The idea is to create spaces where artists can stay, work and interact with others while spending time in the hill regions.
The project is reportedly being developed in collaboration with Homemade Stories, the production company behind ‘Musafir Cafe’. Discussions are also said to be underway with the culinary initiative involved with the project.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Massey or the other parties involved so far.
Vikrant had earlier spoken about cafe plans
The reported project comes after Massey had previously spoken about his plans to open a cafe in Himachal Pradesh. In an earlier conversation with Amar Ujala, the actor said he had already worked out a plan and was exploring locations in the state, according to The Indian Express.
Massey had mentioned Dharamkot and Dharamshala as possible locations, while also considering Chamba and Kufri.
When asked about the name of his proposed cafe, the actor joked about using the title of his Netflix series. He pointed out that there were already 16-17 cafes named Musafir Cafe across India and joked that he could start his own “Musafir Cafe” franchise and sit there himself.
A real-life 'Musafir Cafe' already exists
The connection between the show and the cafe concept also extends beyond the reported upcoming projects. A real-life Musafir Cafe is already located in Mussoorie.
The cafe is part of Jharipani Castle, a heritage property at Patiala House near Oak Grove School. The venue is open to visitors and tourists, giving the ‘Musafir Cafe’ name a presence outside the Netflix series as well.
