Putin's Aurus Senat in Delhi: Inside the Russian President's ultra-luxurious limousine

From its spacious cabin and premium finishes to its powerful engine and heavy armour, Putin's Aurus Senat is designed to offer both luxury and protection

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit with his high-security convoy, including his customised Aurus Senat limousine. While the vehicle is built to provide extensive protection, its appeal also lies in the level of luxury packed into the presidential car.

The Aurus Senat has become a signature part of Putin's overseas travel. The Russian leader generally takes his own limousine abroad rather than relying on a host country's official vehicles. The car previously attracted attention when Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled in it with Putin during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in China.

A luxury fortress on wheels

The Aurus Senat is a full-size luxury limousine developed by Russian automaker Aurus Motors. It emerged from Russia's Kortezh project, which was created to develop high-end vehicles for government use.

Introduced in 2018, the Senat draws design inspiration from the Soviet-era ZIS-110 limousine. A civilian version is also produced, with annual output limited to 120 units. It is priced at around 18 million rubles, or approximately Rs 2.5 crore.

Putin's version, however, is significantly more specialised, combining a luxury limousine experience with heavy armour and protection designed for presidential travel.

Powerful engine, imposing dimensions

The Senat is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine working with a hybrid system. It produces approximately 598 horsepower and 880 Nm of torque and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The limousine measures 5,630 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width and 1,700 mm in height. Its 3,300 mm wheelbase adds to its imposing road presence. The car can reach a top speed of around 160 kmph and accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in approximately nine seconds.

Presidential luxury inside

The cabin is designed around comfort as much as security. High-end leather, wood trim and advanced infotainment systems give the Senat the feel of a premium executive limousine.

The vehicle is also engineered to operate in extreme climates, while its security systems include advanced braking, electronic traction control, active cruise control and lane departure warning.

With its combination of presidential-grade protection, spacious proportions and lavish interiors, the Aurus Senat serves as both a secure transport vehicle and a showcase of Russian automotive luxury.
