Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2026 Baleno facelift in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom), giving its popular premium hatchback a new engine, revised styling and a substantial technology upgrade that includes Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The facelift, launched on September 5, marks the first major update to the second-generation Baleno introduced in 2022. While Maruti Suzuki has retained the car’s familiar overall proportions, it has reworked the front end and added several features aimed at keeping the hatchback competitive as Indian buyers increasingly gravitate towards compact SUVs.
ADAS makes debut
The most significant addition is the Level 2 ADAS suite, which brings features including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and automatic high-beam assist. The Baleno also gets six airbags across the range, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, hill-hold assist and other safety equipment.
Maruti has upgraded the cabin with ventilated front seats, which it claims are a segment-first feature, along with a Qi-certified wireless charging pad equipped with an active cooling system. A premium Clarion audio system has also been added.
The facelift retains the broad cabin layout of the outgoing model while using the additional equipment to strengthen the Baleno’s premium positioning.
New engine under bonnet
Another major change is under the bonnet. The facelifted Baleno gets Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated Z-Series petrol engine, replacing the four-cylinder unit offered with the previous model. The same engine family is already used in the latest Swift and Dzire.
The move brings the Baleno in line with Maruti Suzuki’s newer powertrain strategy. The hatchback continues to target buyers seeking fuel efficiency and relatively low running costs rather than outright performance.
Exterior changes are concentrated largely at the front, where the Baleno gets a redesigned, wider grille and a more sculpted bumper. Maruti has also introduced a new Enigmatic Teal exterior colour as part of the update.
Key model for Maruti
The Baleno has been one of Maruti Suzuki’s most important premium products since the hatchback version was introduced in 2015 through the company’s NEXA retail network. At the launch, Maruti Suzuki said the Baleno accounts for one in every three premium hatchbacks sold in India.
The Baleno name itself first appeared in India on a sedan launched in 1999. That model was discontinued in 2007 before Maruti revived the badge for its premium hatchback eight years later.
With the 2026 facelift, Maruti is seeking to extend the Baleno’s appeal through a combination of additional safety technology, comfort features and a newer powertrain at a time when hatchbacks face growing competition from compact SUVs.
