The Mahindra XUV 7XO has secured a five-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), achieving the highest rating for both adult and child occupant protection. The latest crash-test results reinforce Mahindra’s focus on vehicle safety, with the XUV 7XO scoring 30.76 out of a possible 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.97 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP).
Bharat NCAP tested the seven-seat AX7 diesel-automatic versions of the XUV 7XO in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. However, the five-star safety rating is applicable across the entire XUV 7XO range. The SUV performed particularly strongly in the side-impact assessment, while its child protection score came close to the maximum available under the testing protocol.
Strong adult protection
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the XUV 7XO scored 14.76 out of 16 points. Protection for the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet was rated “good”, while protection for the chest and tibiae was assessed as “adequate”. For the front passenger, protection was rated “good” across most critical areas, with the tibiae receiving an “adequate” assessment.
The SUV achieved the maximum 16 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test, with protection for the passenger’s head, chest, abdomen and pelvis all rated “good”. It also received an “OK” assessment in the side pole impact test, helping the vehicle finish with an overall adult occupant protection score of 30.76 points.
Near-perfect child score
The XUV 7XO recorded 23.97 out of 24 points in the dynamic child protection assessment. Bharat NCAP used rear-facing child restraint systems for both the 18-month-old and three-year-old dummies. The younger dummy received 7.97 out of eight points in the frontal crash assessment, while the three-year-old dummy secured the full eight points. Both received four out of four points in the side-impact test.
The SUV also secured the maximum 12 out of 12 points for child restraint system installation and nine out of 13 points in the vehicle assessment category, resulting in the overall child occupant protection score of 44.97 out of 49.
Six airbags standard
The XUV 7XO comes with six airbags as standard along with electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold and hill-descent assistance and ISOFIX child-seat anchorages. Higher variants add safety and driver-assistance equipment such as a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems.
The five-star result also builds on the safety performance of its predecessor, the XUV700, which was tested by Global NCAP in 2021. The earlier model secured five stars for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant protection. With the XUV 7XO now achieving five stars in both categories under Bharat NCAP, Mahindra has strengthened the safety credentials of its flagship internal-combustion SUV.
