Ducati is preparing to expand the Diavel family with a new Diavel V4 S for the 2027 model year, with fresh certification documents confirming the upcoming variant ahead of its official unveiling. The motorcycle has appeared in updated California Air Resources Board (CARB) documents, providing the clearest indication yet that Ducati will introduce a more sophisticated S version of its muscular V4-powered cruiser.
The Italian manufacturer had originally certified its 2027 Diavel V4 range with CARB in March, when the documents listed the standard Diavel V4, Diavel V4 Bentley and limited-production Diavel V4 Bentley Mulliner. An updated executive order signed on August 26 has now added the Diavel V4 S as a fourth variant. Ducati has yet to officially reveal the motorcycle or announce its launch schedule, but its appearance in certification documents indicates that its debut is approaching.
Electronic suspension likely
One of the most significant upgrades expected on the Diavel V4 S is Ducati’s Skyhook electronic suspension. Earlier design registrations had already provided clues that the company was developing a more premium version of the motorcycle, and the semi-active suspension system would distinguish the S from the standard Diavel V4. The technology can electronically alter suspension behaviour according to riding conditions and selected riding modes, potentially improving both comfort and handling.
The new model is also expected to receive revised ride modes to work with the electronic suspension. Ducati has not disclosed whether further changes will be made to the electronics package, but the standard Diavel V4 already offers an extensive suite of rider aids, making suspension technology likely to be the major functional differentiator on the S.
Styling changes expected
Design filings suggest the Diavel V4 S will receive several visual and hardware revisions rather than simply adding electronic suspension to the existing motorcycle. Changes are expected around the radiator shrouds and air intakes, while new wheels and a revised exhaust system are also likely to feature. Together, the modifications should give the S variant a distinct identity while retaining the low-slung, muscular proportions that define the current Diavel.
Major changes to the powertrain, however, are not expected. The existing Diavel V4 uses Ducati’s 1,158cc V4 Granturismo engine, producing 168hp at 10,750rpm and 126Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. The same engine and performance figures are expected to carry over to the S, with Ducati instead concentrating on chassis sophistication, electronics and styling.
Official debut awaited
The Diavel V4 S had earlier been expected to appear as a 2026 model after related designs surfaced, but Ducati made no announcement. Its inclusion in the latest CARB documents now confirms that the project has moved into the 2027 model-year cycle.
The motorcycle could make its public debut during Ducati’s upcoming 2027 World Première presentations, although the company has not confirmed a date. Pricing and market-specific availability, including whether the Diavel V4 S will eventually be offered in India, also remain unknown.
