BYD Sealion 7 gets cheaper Dynamic variant at Rs 41.90 lakh

New entry-level version costs Rs 8 lakh less than the Premium trim and uses a smaller 71.8kWh battery, making BYD’s electric SUV significantly more accessible

BYD has expanded the Sealion 7 range in India with a new entry-level Dynamic variant priced at Rs 41.90 lakh, ex-showroom, lowering the starting price of its premium electric SUV by a substantial Rs 8 lakh. The Dynamic sits below the existing Premium and Performance versions and is aimed at buyers willing to trade some battery capacity and performance for a substantially lower purchase price. The biggest mechanical change is the adoption of a smaller 71.8kWh Blade battery pack. The more expensive versions use a larger battery, giving the Dynamic a distinct position as the value-focused model in the Sealion 7 line-up.

Smaller battery, lower price

Despite being the entry point to the range, the Sealion 7 Dynamic retains the basic character of BYD's electric SUV, including its rear-wheel-drive configuration. Its lower price significantly narrows the gap between the Sealion 7 and other premium electric vehicles available in India, while allowing BYD to address a broader group of buyers looking to move into the premium EV segment.

At Rs 41.90 lakh, the Dynamic is Rs 8 lakh cheaper than the Premium version. The new variant also arrives at a time when competition in India's premium electric vehicle market is intensifying, with manufacturers introducing new models and additional variants across the Rs 40 lakh-Rs 60 lakh price band.

Sealion 7 range expands

BYD introduced the Sealion 7 in India as a premium electric SUV positioned above the Atto 3. Its coupe-like roofline, large proportions and performance-oriented electric powertrains distinguish it from BYD's more affordable offering. The Dynamic variant broadens that positioning by giving customers a lower-cost route into the Sealion 7 without requiring BYD to introduce an entirely new model.

The strategy mirrors a broader trend in the EV market, where manufacturers are using different battery capacities and motor configurations to create wider price spreads within the same model range. A smaller battery can reduce both vehicle cost and weight, although it also means compromising on the maximum driving range available from a single charge.

BYD widens India portfolio

The introduction of another Sealion 7 variant comes as BYD continues to strengthen its passenger-vehicle presence in India. The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer currently competes in different sections of India's premium EV market with models including the Atto 3, Seal sedan and Sealion 7 SUV. BYD's Blade battery technology remains a central feature of its electric vehicles. The company has increasingly used multiple battery and powertrain combinations to offer customers different balances between price, performance and driving range.

The Rs 41.90 lakh price tag is therefore the key attraction of the Sealion 7 Dynamic. By undercutting the Premium variant by Rs 8 lakh, BYD has substantially reduced the financial barrier to its flagship SUV range and positioned the new version to compete more aggressively in India's fast-expanding premium electric vehicle market.
