Supreme Court pulls up Rahul Gandhi over remarks on Indian Army

The Supreme Court criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments allegedly questioning the integrity of the Indian Army. A bench led by Justice Surya Kant expressed displeasure during the hearing of a contempt plea, stating that political leaders should exercise caution and responsibility when making public remarks about the armed forces. The Court emphasized that such statements can undermine the morale of soldiers and adversely affect national security. Rahul Gandhi’s counsel argued that the remarks were taken out of context and did not intend to insult or disparage the Army. The Court, however, observed that leaders must maintain restraint in public discourse. The matter has been adjourned for the next hearing, with the Court warning against making politically charged statements that may erode public trust in defense institutions.
