A court in Nuh has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl in 2023, police said on Monday.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Ashu Sanjeev Tinjan, Fast Track Special Court (POCSO), Nuh, also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. In case of non-payment, he will have to undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment, they said.
According to police, an FIR was registered at Rojka Meo police station on December 24, 2023, based on a complaint by the victim's father.
The complainant alleged that his daughter had stepped out of the house on the evening of December 23 to dispose of garbage when the accused lured her and raped her.

He also alleged that two unidentified youths accompanying the accused assisted him. When the girl raised an alarm, a neighbour reached the spot, following which the accused fled, police said.
The accused was arrested during the investigation and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Police later filed a charge sheet against him, they said.
"After conclusion of the trial and considering the evidence and witness testimonies, the court sentenced the accused to 10 years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. In case of non-payment of the fine, he will undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment," a Nuh police spokesperson said.
