A woman who participated in the Jantar Mantar protests organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has approached the Supreme Court, alleging that she has been receiving continuing threats of rape and abduction. The matter was mentioned before Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Friday by the woman's counsel, who sought the court's intervention over the alleged threats. The Chief Justice agreed to take up the petition on August 18 along with other cases connected with the CJP protests.
During the mentioning, the woman's counsel informed the bench that the alleged threats had continued following her participation in the protests.
"There are continuing threats of rape and abduction," the counsel told the court while seeking urgent consideration of the matter.
Taking note of the submission, the Chief Justice said the petition would be listed on Tuesday along with the other matters relating to the protests.
The court did not pass any substantive order on the allegations at the mentioning stage. The issues raised by the petitioner are expected to be considered when the matter comes up for hearing.
The petition adds to the legal proceedings surrounding the CJP protests held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
