A young couple who worked for the same bank and were preparing to get married in December were found dead within hours of each other in two different states, prompting police investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deaths. P Anushree, 25, was found dead at her accommodation in Hunsur, Karnataka, while her fiancé V Amal, 26, was later found dead in a hotel room in Ernakulam, Kerala. Police suspect Amal died by suicide after learning about Anushree’s death.
Anushree, a native of Poochakkad in Kerala’s Kasaragod district, and Amal, from Iritty in Kannur district, had recently become engaged. The couple were planning to get married in December. Both were employees of a nationalised bank, though they were posted in different states. Anushree worked at a branch in Karnataka, while Amal was posted at the bank’s Ernakulam branch in Kerala. Their deaths within a short span have left their families and acquaintances shocked, while police are trying to establish the events leading up to the two incidents.
Anushree was found dead at her accommodation in Hunsur, in Karnataka’s Mysuru region. Following the necessary procedures, her body was taken to her home in Kasaragod after a post-mortem examination. Her funeral was held on Wednesday evening. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation. Police have not drawn a definitive conclusion about what led to her death, and investigators are examining the available evidence to establish the sequence of events.
Amal had been staying with friends in Ernakulam, where he worked. Police said that after learning about Anushree’s death, he apparently checked into a lodge on Wednesday. He was subsequently found dead inside the room. Ernakulam North Police suspect that Amal died by suicide, though investigators have said the exact circumstances can be determined only after a detailed inquiry.
No suicide note was recovered from the hotel room.
Investigators are expected to examine the couple’s mobile phones and communications as they attempt to understand what happened in the hours preceding their deaths. Amal’s phone, in particular, is being examined for information that could help establish his movements and state of mind after he learned about Anushree’s death.
Other reports said police were examining the digital trail surrounding both deaths as questions remained about the circumstances in which the couple died.
With the deaths occurring in two states, separate police investigations are underway. Authorities have so far refrained from drawing conclusions about whether circumstances beyond the couple’s personal relationship played any role. Police have also not publicly established the reason behind Anushree’s death.
