Yash's 'Toxic' slows down at box office, crosses Rs 165 crore in three days

The Geetu Mohandas directorial opened strongly on Wednesday but saw collections fall on Thursday and Friday, with the film recording 21.9% overall occupancy on its third day

Yash's 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' has collected more than Rs 165 crore at the Indian box office in its first three days, but the film has seen a steep drop in earnings after its strong opening.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film hit theatres on Wednesday and opened with Rs 101.10 crore. However, its collections fell sharply the following day.

Collections fall on second day

According to trade website Sacnilk, 'Toxic' earned Rs 37.65 crore on Thursday, marking a 62.8% decline from its opening-day figure.

The film collected another Rs 26.6 crore nett in India on Friday. This took its three-day total to Rs 165.35 crore.

On Friday, the film recorded an overall occupancy of 21.9% across 14,746 shows.

While the film's overall performance has been driven by multiple language markets, its Hindi version has reportedly performed better than the Kannada release. The Telugu and Tamil versions have also recorded decent collections. The Malayalam release, however, has seen a limited response despite arriving during the Onam period.

How 'Toxic' compares with other releases

'Toxic' has opened ahead of several major films in terms of its first three-day collection.

Sunny Deol's 'Border 2' collected Rs 121 crore in its first three days, while Ram Charan's 'Peddi' and Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' earned Rs 125.50 crore and Rs 92.75 crore, respectively, during the same period.

The film had initially been scheduled for release in March and was expected to clash with Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'. That film eventually recorded Rs 339.27 crore during its first three days.

Yash plays dual roles

'Toxic' is directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP.

The film features Yash in dual roles, with Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth in key parts.

Set in Goa during the period of Portuguese rule, the story follows a gangster and traces his rise and eventual fall from power.
