Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh addressed his critics during his Delhi concert on Friday, taking particular exception to remarks allegedly made about his film ‘Satluj’. Without directly naming the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Diljit defended the film based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and said people should not question his commitment to Punjab.
“I love all of you because I am an artist, bro. I am being quiet, so let me stay quiet. I support all of you. But don't teach Punjabis how to fight,” Diljit told the audience.
He also spoke about the criticism directed at ‘Satluj’, alleging that the film had been mocked on stage. Referring to Khalra's story, the singer said the team had fought for a long time to bring the film to audiences.
“The film you are making fun of on stage, Jaswant Singh Khalra's film — we fought for that film for a long time. I love all of you. If someone hates us, it's okay. But I love all of you,” he added.
Why Diljit faced criticism from CJP
The exchange comes months after Diljit faced criticism for his response to a fan who asked him about the exam paper leak protests in India. The singer had described himself as an artist, saying, “I'm just an artist.” His response drew criticism from some quarters, with detractors accusing him of avoiding the issue despite appearing in films dealing with politically sensitive subjects.
CJP leaders, including Abhijit Dipke, were among those who questioned his stance and accused him of hypocrisy over his involvement in ‘Satluj’.
The film explores the work of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who highlighted alleged illegal killings and secret cremations in Punjab during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Originally titled ‘Panjab 95’, the Honey Trehan directorial faced prolonged censorship hurdles before arriving on Zee5 on July 3. However, it was removed from the platform within 2 days. Its withdrawal drew criticism from free speech advocates.
Diljit kicks off India tour in Delhi
Diljit's remarks came during the opening concert of his RuPay AURA India Tour 2026 at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday. The sold-out show marked the beginning of the India leg of his international Aura Tour.
Co-produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live and Live Nation, the tour will take the singer to audiences across the country following his international run.
