Comedian and actor Vir Das has secured his third International Emmy nomination, with his Netflix stand-up special Vir Das: Fool Volume making the shortlist in the Comedy category for the 2026 International Emmy Awards.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations Wednesday, with 64 nominees across 16 categories representing 22 countries. Das is among two Indian nominees this year, with Real Kashmir Football Club also securing a place in the Drama Series category.
Third nomination for Das
Das’s latest nomination extends a run at the International Emmys that began in 2021, when Vir Das: For India was nominated in the Comedy category.
He returned to the awards in 2023 with Vir Das: Landing, which won the International Emmy for Comedy, sharing the honour with the third season of British series Derry Girls.
With Fool Volume, Das has now received three International Emmy nominations for three different stand-up specials.
Reacting to the announcement, Das thanked viewers in a brief social media post, writing: “An International Emmy Nomination. Our third for India. This fool thanks you.”
He later described the latest recognition as particularly meaningful because the special emerged from a period when he had temporarily lost his voice before one of the biggest performances of his career.
Das said For India had shown him that Indian comedy could find an audience on the global stage, while Landing brought him an International Emmy. With Fool Volume returning him to the awards race, he said three nominations were something he had never imagined when he began the journey.
Four-way comedy contest
Vir Das: Fool Volume will compete against Argentina’s División Palermo – Season 2, the UK’s Man vs Baby and Spain’s Old Dog, New Tricks in the Comedy category.
The special, released in 2025, was filmed across Mumbai, London and New York. Built partly around Das’s experience of unexpectedly losing his voice, it explores subjects ranging from self-doubt and happiness to identity and the absurdities of everyday life.
The show combines personal storytelling with the social and cultural observations that have become central to Das’s stand-up work.
His latest nomination also comes two years after he became the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards ceremony in 2024.
Two Indian titles nominated
India’s second nomination at the 2026 awards went to Real Kashmir Football Club, which will compete in the Drama Series category.
The series, starring Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, is based around the attempt to build a professional football club in Kashmir and follows players brought together from across the Valley.
It has been nominated alongside the UK’s A Thousand Blows, France’s Carême and Argentina’s Menem.
The International Academy said this year’s nominees represented programmes and performances from 22 countries, including India, Argentina, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Nominees will gather in New York for the International Emmy World Television Festival from November 20 to 22.
The winners will be announced at the 54th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York on November 23.
For Das, the ceremony will mark another opportunity to add to a record that has already taken three of his stand-up specials to the International Emmy stage — from For India and the award-winning Landing to his latest, Fool Volume.
