Uorfi Javed alleges harassment by Mumbai housing society over new reel-shooting rule

She claimed a newly introduced restriction prevents her from filming reels inside her own residence

Social media personality and actor Uorfi Javed has alleged harassment by her housing society in Mumbai, claiming that a newly introduced rule prevents her from shooting reels inside her own home.

Javed, known for her unconventional fashion choices and social media presence, has publicly objected to the restriction, questioning the society's decision to regulate content creation within her residence.

The controversy centres on whether a housing society can prohibit residents from filming social media content inside their private apartments.

Uorfi alleges retaliation over earlier complaint

In a series of Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Javed claimed that the society committee had classified her social media shoots as commercial activity because she uploads the videos online. She alleged that the classification was being used to stop her from filming inside her apartment.

Javed linked the latest restriction to an earlier dispute involving rules governing visitors to the residential complex. She had previously approached Mumbai Police after objecting to a requirement that residents obtain their landlord's permission for guests entering the premises after 6 pm.

According to Javed, some committee members subsequently approached her landlord and asked her to evict her. She claimed that the landlord refused, following which the alleged harassment continued.

Visitors allegedly subjected to bag checks

Javed also alleged that visitors arriving at her apartment were being subjected to additional scrutiny, particularly if security personnel suspected them of carrying cameras or filming equipment.

She claimed that bags were being checked at the society entrance, raising concerns about restrictions affecting people visiting her for professional assignments.

The actor questioned the legality of preventing residents from recording videos inside their homes, arguing that content creation had become a common activity and should not automatically be treated as prohibited commercial work.

Earlier dispute over visitor restrictions

The latest allegations follow a disagreement in September, when Javed publicly objected to restrictions on visitors entering the residential complex after 10 pm.

In a post on X, she claimed that the rules were affecting people visiting her for interviews, shoots and other professional commitments.

She also alleged that visitors were being denied entry unless the flat owner had provided prior permission through email.

Mumbai Police reportedly responded to her earlier complaint on social media, asking her to share the name and address of the housing society.

Society's response awaited

Javed's latest allegations have renewed attention on her continuing disagreement with the housing society over visitor access and filming restrictions.

The claims concerning harassment, demands for eviction and checks on visitors' belongings are based on her account. The housing society committee's response to the latest allegations was not immediately available.

On the professional front, Javed was recently seen as a mischief maker on the reality show Splitsvilla X6, alongside Nia Sharma. The programme was hosted by Sunny Leone and Karan Kundrra.
