Sandra Bullock's 91-acre avocado ranch sold for $5.6 million after 15 years

The sprawling estate featured around 1,200 avocado trees, a four-bedroom ranch house, solar panels and water conservation facilities

Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock's former 91-acre ranch in California, which housed approximately 1,200 organic avocado trees, was sold for $5.6 million in November 2022, more than double the amount she paid for the property 15 years earlier.

The Oscar-winning actress purchased the estate in San Diego County for $2.725 million in 2007 and transformed its existing avocado and citrus groves into an organic farming operation. The property was listed for $6 million in September 2022 before selling for $400,000 below its asking price.

According to property records reported by Mansion Global, the sale was completed on November 9, 2022, after the estate attracted a buyer within approximately three weeks of being listed.

The property comprised three separate parcels of land, with a single-storey adobe-style residence featuring four bedrooms, six bathrooms and a saltwater swimming pool.

Its agricultural operations included approximately 1,200 organic avocado trees alongside citrus groves. Bullock also expanded the orchard, planted olive trees and introduced landscaping improvements during her ownership.

The ranch was located in a region known for avocado cultivation, particularly organic farming. Maintaining the estate required year-round agricultural work, including irrigation, fertilisation and harvesting.

Beyond agriculture, the estate incorporated several environmentally conscious features, including solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and a backup generator.

Bullock also supported water conservation efforts through landscaping improvements and the creation of pathways leading to a pond used for irrigation.

The actress had previously spoken about her interest in sustainable living and organic farming, acknowledging that maintaining a completely organic and self-sustaining agricultural property could be expensive and demanding.

She also expressed an interest in restoring properties, suggesting that real estate development might have been an alternative career had she not pursued acting.

The $5.6 million sale price represented a substantial increase over Bullock's original investment of $2.725 million.

Based on the property's 91-acre size, the selling price worked out to approximately $61,500 per acre, compared with about $30,000 per acre when she purchased it in 2007.

However, the difference between the purchase and sale prices does not represent the actress's actual profit, as it excludes property taxes, maintenance, agricultural expenses and investments made during her ownership.

Bullock, best known for films including The Blind Side, Gravity and Miss Congeniality, owned the California ranch for 15 years, combining her interest in property restoration with organic agriculture and sustainable living.
