Bollywood actress Nushrratt Bharuccha has shared her first social media update after suffering a spinal fracture in an accident in Bali earlier this month, posting a photograph of a wheelchair overlooking a sunset and expressing hope as she recovers from the injury.
The actress, who was brought back to Mumbai for medical treatment, took to Instagram Stories on Saturday to share a photograph showing an empty reclining wheelchair positioned beside a large window, with the setting sun visible in the background.
Reflecting on how the accident had unexpectedly changed her circumstances, Bharuccha wrote, "Been chasing sunsets forever, And just like that.. my view changed. But, Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost." The message, which borrowed a popular dialogue from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Om Shanti Om, marked her first personal update since news of the accident emerged.
Accident during Bali trip
Bharuccha had travelled to Bali, Indonesia, for professional commitments before extending her stay into a work-cum-holiday trip. During the visit, she met with an accident that resulted in a fracture in her spine. Following the incident, she was admitted to a hospital in Bali and placed under medical observation. Her representatives subsequently confirmed the injury and said arrangements were being made to transport her to Mumbai by air ambulance for further treatment.
In a statement issued after the accident, her team said the immediate priority was ensuring that the actress received appropriate medical care.
The representatives also confirmed that she required spinal surgery and would need sufficient time to rest and recover. Bharuccha was subsequently brought back to Mumbai, where she reportedly underwent surgery. Her latest social media post, however, did not provide specific details about the procedure or her current medical condition.
Work commitments affected
The actress's representatives had earlier indicated that her professional commitments over the coming weeks were likely to be affected because of the injury and the recovery period. They also requested fans and the media to respect her privacy while she focused on treatment and rehabilitation. Her first social media update since the accident offered a glimpse of her outlook during recovery, with the reference to Om Shanti Om suggesting that she remained hopeful despite the setback.
Recent film appearances
Bharuccha is known for her performances in films such as Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Dream Girl. She also played the lead role in the horror film Chhorii and its sequel, Chhorii 2, expanding her filmography beyond romantic comedies.
The actress was last seen in Ufff Yeh Siyapaa, directed by G Ashok and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under the Luv Films banner. While her representatives have not announced a timeline for her return to work, Bharuccha's latest message indicated that she was looking ahead as she continued her recovery.
