Actor Rakul Preet Singh has hit out at what she called “false, malicious and speculative” reports linking her to an Income Tax department search reportedly involving her father-in-law and film producer Vashu Bhagnani and Panorama Studios.
The statement came nearly a week after multiple Income Tax teams conducted searches at several locations in Mumbai. Rakul said the action had no connection with her and sought a correction from media organisations that had reported otherwise.
'The search was not pertaining to me'
Rakul, in a public statement, said she wanted to put the record straight and rejected any suggestion of wrongdoing on her part.
"Let's therefore set the record straight once for all. The search was not pertaining to me. Let it be known that I am from the Armed Forces background & had no Godfather in the Industry. I have come up through sheer hardwork & as a responsible law abiding citizen have been paying my due taxes since the age of 20 years.
"I am not involved in any kind of illegal Foriegn remittance in personal capacity or on behalf of any Production house. I would also add here that I do not hold any Benami property on behalf of anyone anywhere in the country or abroad. Neither ANYONE has EVER gifted me any property at anytime nor do I accept such expensive gifts as a principle," Rakul wrote.
Actor demands retraction of reports
Rakul also questioned reports that, according to her, were published without adequate verification. She urged media outlets to retract what she described as speculative claims and clarify the facts.
"I urge all those who published these false, malicious and speculative reports to retract them and clarify the facts. "I understand that everyone running a media business however big has their own commercial pressures. But it cannot come at the cost of facts. And certainly not at the cost of someone's reputation and livelihood."
The Income Tax department is reportedly examining documents, financial records and details linked to alleged overseas transactions.
Rakul’s family has faced scrutiny before
The development comes months after Mumbai Police launched a hunt for Rakul’s brother Aman Preet Singh in connection with a drug case.
On December 19, 2025, the EAGLE Force and West Zone police arrested two businessmen for allegedly peddling drugs and seized 43 grams of cocaine and 11.5 grams of MDMA. Aman was suspected of having purchased drugs from the two men on five occasions.
Following the Income Tax searches, Vashu Bhagnani was reportedly hospitalised in London after two days of searches.
On the work front, Rakul was last seen in ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’. She will next be seen as Shurpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in lead roles.
