Love European cinema? Here's where you can watch 28 films across India

The 31st European Union Film Festival will bring 28 films from 27 EU member states and Ukraine to Shillong, Delhi and Pune, beginning November 12

From Sandra Huller-starrer "Rose" and Oliver Laxe's "Sirat" to the French drama "The Richest Woman in the World", Italian film "A Year of School" and Malta's "Zejtune", the 31st edition of the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) will bring 28 films from across Europe to Indian audiences this month.

EU Film Festival to travel across three Indian cities

The festival, featuring films from 27 European Union member states and Ukraine in 30 languages, will open in Shillong on November 12 before moving to New Delhi from November 25 to December 4, followed by Pune in December.

Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to India in collaboration with the embassies of EU member states and regional partners, the festival will showcase a diverse selection of award-winning films spanning drama, documentaries, animation, sports and historical narratives.

Six venues to host Delhi screenings

The Delhi edition will be held across six venues, including India Habitat Centre, Instituto Cervantes, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre, India International Centre and Triveni Kala Sangam.

The selection features seven films by women filmmakers and five debut features. It explores themes such as identity, belonging, migration, ageing, disability, illness and mental health, alongside stories of family, love, resilience and social change.

Festival to showcase diverse European stories

"The European Union Film Festival returns with the 31st edition, this time travelling to Shillong, Delhi and Pune, cities with a rich cultural pulse and a deep love for storytelling," Jean-Eric Paquet, Ambassador of the European Union to India, said.

He described cinema as a bridge between regions and cultures, adding that the festival's films reflect shared human experiences and can inspire conversations among audiences.

Festival curator Artur Zaborski said the selection brings together diverse European voices and perspectives, with films exploring politics, sport, society, family and love.

EUFF Film Project Award for emerging Indian filmmakers

The 2026 edition will also introduce the EUFF Film Project Award, an initiative aimed at providing a platform to emerging Indian filmmakers. The competition invited short films of up to 10 minutes across fiction, documentary, animation and hybrid formats.

Up to 10 shortlisted films will be screened during the Delhi chapter, with the winner announced at the festival. The winning director will receive the EUFF Film Project Award 2026 and an opportunity to participate in the 15th edition of Script Fiesta in Warsaw, Poland, from March 17 to 21, 2027.

All festival screenings will have English subtitles, with entry on a first-come, first-served basis.
