Actor Janhvi Kapoor celebrated Halloween with a nostalgic tribute to her late mother and legendary actress Sridevi, recreating some of her most memorable scenes from the 1986 fantasy film Nagina. Teaming up with social media personality Orry, Janhvi brought back the magic of the cult film through a series of photographs inspired by its iconic moments.
Janhvi shared the pictures on Instagram, recreating Sridevi's popular look as an ichchhadhari naagin. She paid close attention to the details of her mother's appearance in the film, including the pink outfit, jewellery, make-up and hairstyle.
Orry joined her in the recreation, stepping into the look of late actor Rishi Kapoor, who played the male lead in Nagina. The duo recreated the film's poster and several memorable sequences, including visuals featuring Amrish Puri's character.
Janhvi calls it a tribute to Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor and Amrish Puri
Sharing the pictures, Janhvi described the recreation as a celebration of some of the most iconic moments in Indian cinema. She explained that Halloween had increasingly become an occasion for people to dress up as their favourite fictional characters and recreate memorable pop-culture moments.
"Happy Halloweeeeeny. Had to recreate one of the most iconic movie moments everrrrr," she wrote.
Reflecting on the idea behind the photographs, Janhvi added, "So much of Halloween has become about dressing up as your favourite characters and pop culture moments. Sometimes they're spooky, sometimes they're funny, and sometimes it's a tribute."
She also paid tribute to the three actors associated with the film, writing, "And who could possibly be more iconic than Mumma, Rishi uncle and Amrish sir!!"
The post drew reactions from several social media users and members of the film fraternity. Janhvi's sister Khushi Kapoor praised the recreation, commenting, "You have won Halloween."
Sridevi's Nagina remains a memorable Bollywood classic
Released in 1986, Nagina featured Sridevi as Rajni, an ichchhadhari naagin who marries Rajiv, played by Rishi Kapoor, to avenge the death of her husband at the hands of an evil saint. Amrish Puri portrayed the antagonist Bhairavnath in the film.
Directed by Harmesh Malhotra, the fantasy drama also featured Komal Mahuvakar, Sushma Seth and Prem Chopra, among others. The film became a major commercial success and was the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 1986.
Sridevi's portrayal of the shape-shifting serpent became one of the most recognisable performances of her career and helped establish her as one of Hindi cinema's leading stars. The film was followed by a sequel, Nigahen, released in 1989.
Janhvi's Halloween recreation brought renewed attention to the film and its celebrated cast, offering a nostalgic reminder of Sridevi's enduring screen legacy.
Sridevi died in Dubai on February 24, 2018, at the age of 54. Her death came just months before Janhvi made her Bollywood debut with Dhadak in July 2018.
