Dua Lipa made a surprise appearance during Shakira’s Madrid concert, joining the Colombian superstar onstage for an acoustic performance of “Antología” in what became one of the standout moments of the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour residency.
The unexpected collaboration took place on October 3 during the eighth show of Shakira’s Madrid run. Lipa emerged onstage to a huge reception before joining Shakira for the Spanish-language ballad, marking the first time the two global pop stars had performed together.
Surprise for Madrid
Shakira introduced Lipa to the audience as a “diosa”, Spanish for goddess, before the pair performed the stripped-down version of “Antología”. The song, one of the Colombian singer’s most celebrated early ballads, appeared on her breakthrough 1995 album Pies Descalzos.
The choice carried an added coincidence — the song was released in the same year Lipa was born. Their performance brought together two artists from different generations of global pop, with the acoustic arrangement placing the focus largely on their vocals.
Lipa addressed the audience in Spanish following the performance and spoke about the experience of singing alongside Shakira. The pair embraced onstage as the crowd applauded the surprise collaboration.
Bogotá connection
The duet had its origins in Lipa’s own concert in Colombia nearly a year earlier. During her Radical Optimism Tour stop at Bogotá’s Estadio El Campín in November 2025, Lipa performed “Antología” in Spanish as a tribute to Shakira.
The performance attracted Shakira’s attention and led to an exchange between the singers on social media. Shakira had been particularly appreciative that Lipa chose to perform the song in Bogotá, the city where she wrote it during the early years of her career.
The Madrid appearance transformed that earlier tribute into their first performance together. Lipa again sang in Spanish, this time sharing the song with the artist who originally wrote and recorded it.
‘Music brings us together’
Shakira spoke warmly about Lipa during the concert, telling the audience that she admired both her talent and humility. She also reflected on how music had connected two performers who came from very different parts of the world — one from London and the other from Barranquilla.
Lipa similarly described the experience as special and said she felt closely connected to Shakira and the audience during the performance.
After the show, Shakira described the collaboration on social media as a “dream come true for many of us”, while Lipa shared her appreciation for being invited to perform a song that has long held significance for her.
Early Shakira classic
“Antología” dates back to a defining period in Shakira’s career. Included on Pies Descalzos, the song helped establish the singer as one of Latin pop’s emerging voices well before her subsequent crossover into the international English-language market.
Unlike many of Shakira’s later dance-driven global hits, “Antología” is built around a comparatively restrained arrangement and personal lyrics. It has remained a fan favourite across three decades and continues to feature prominently in her live performances.
Lipa’s decision to cover the track in Bogotá in 2025 was therefore particularly notable, both because she performed it entirely in Spanish and because of the song’s close association with Shakira’s early career.
Guests light up residency
Lipa is the latest high-profile artist to appear during Shakira’s Madrid residency. The Colombian singer has used the extended run to bring several guests onstage for performances spanning different phases of her career.
Laura Pausini previously joined her for “Antología”, while Alejandro Sanz and Manuel Turizo have also appeared during the Madrid shows.
The October 3 concert was streamed internationally, allowing audiences outside the stadium to watch Lipa’s surprise appearance as it happened. The show subsequently became the most-viewed livestream performance by a female artist on Amazon Music, adding another milestone to Shakira’s Madrid run.
Tour nears finale
Shakira’s Madrid residency forms part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, named after her 2024 album. The tour has combined material from the album with songs covering more than three decades of her career, including “Hips Don’t Lie”, “Whenever, Wherever”, “She Wolf” and several of her Spanish-language classics.
The Madrid concerts have emerged as a major closing chapter of the tour, with the residency drawing large crowds and a succession of guest performers.
For the October 3 audience, however, the unexpected arrival of Lipa provided a particularly distinctive moment. What began as a tribute in Bogotá in 2025 culminated less than a year later with Lipa standing beside Shakira in Madrid, performing the same song with her for the first time.
