Hollywood actor Dakota Johnson and musician MGK, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, have reportedly been quietly spending time together for months, with their friendship said to have developed into a budding romance.
Johnson and MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, had met previously but reportedly “hit it off” at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding in New York in July. A source close to the musician told People that the pair initially started as friends and frequently exchanged messages before gradually beginning to spend more time together.
The development follows days of speculation after Johnson and MGK, both 36, were photographed together in New York. Neither has publicly confirmed that they are in a relationship, and representatives for the two stars have not commented on the reports.
From friends to more
According to the report, Johnson and MGK have been seeing each other away from the public eye for several months. Their connection reportedly became stronger after Swift and Kelce’s wedding, where the two spent time together despite having crossed paths before.
They initially kept things friendly and remained in regular contact through texts. That dynamic has since evolved, with the pair now meeting more frequently.
One source described it as a “very new start” and said the two were currently smitten with each other. MGK is reportedly particularly taken with Johnson and has spoken positively about her to friends.
However, the two are not said to be rushing to define their relationship. Another source characterised the situation as casual, with the pair apparently content to see where their growing closeness leads.
NYC outing sparks buzz
Speculation surrounding Johnson and MGK intensified after they were spotted together in New York earlier this month. The pair were photographed arriving at Swift’s Tribeca apartment before later spending time elsewhere in the city.
Reports said Swift was not at the apartment at the time. Johnson and MGK were also linked to a dinner outing during their time together in New York, further fuelling speculation that their friendship had taken a romantic turn.
The outing drew considerable attention because neither star had previously spoken publicly about a relationship with the other. Their representatives have so far remained silent, leaving accounts of their relationship based largely on unnamed sources close to the pair.
The two have moved within overlapping celebrity circles before. Apart from attending Swift and Kelce’s wedding, Johnson and MGK were both present at Vogue World: Hollywood in Los Angeles in October 2025.

The reported romance comes after relationship changes for both stars. Johnson was most recently linked to musician Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury. Their relationship reportedly ended earlier this year, with news of the split emerging in August.
Before that, Johnson was in a long-term relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, which ended in 2025 after nearly eight years together.
MGK, meanwhile, was previously in an on-and-off relationship with actor Megan Fox. The former couple, who were once engaged, share daughter Saga, born in March 2025. MGK also has an older daughter, Casie, from a previous relationship.
