Amitabh Bachchan's Sunday appearance gets security makeover after bomb threat

Abhishek Bachchan stood close behind his father as security personnel monitored the crowd gathered outside the Mumbai residence

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan greeted hundreds of fans outside his Juhu residence, Jalsa, on Sunday, but this time from behind a transparent protective shield amid heightened security concerns following a recent bomb threat targeting his bungalow.

The 84-year-old actor continued his longstanding tradition of meeting admirers outside his home every Sunday, despite the additional security arrangements. Videos circulating on social media showed Bachchan standing inside what was reported to be a bulletproof enclosure, waving to fans who had gathered for a glimpse of the veteran star.

His son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, accompanied him during the interaction and stood close behind, keeping an eye on the crowd. Security personnel were also deployed outside the residence.

Unlike his usual appearances, when he steps out to acknowledge fans gathered outside Jalsa, Bachchan remained within the transparent enclosure throughout Sunday's interaction.

The actor greeted admirers in his signature style, raising his hand and acknowledging their presence. Abhishek stood behind him as the crowd cheered and waved.

The additional precautions followed a threatening email received in October that allegedly mentioned Bachchan's bungalow.

According to reports, the email was received by a school in Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex area and subsequently brought to the attention of Mumbai Police, which launched an investigation.

Security outside the actor's residence had been increased following the threat. However, authorities have not publicly confirmed whether the email represented a credible threat.

The Sunday appearance also came days after Bachchan informed fans that doctors had advised him to rest and temporarily reduce his social media activity.

In a recent blog post, the actor said he needed additional time to recover, reflecting on his health and the importance of rest.

He had earlier apologised to followers for being unable to maintain his usual online communication, explaining that he was following medical advice.

Despite these developments, Bachchan continued his weekly interaction with fans, a tradition he has maintained for more than four decades.

The veteran actor is currently hosting the television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. He was last seen on the big screen in the Tamil film Vettaiyan (2024), alongside Rajinikanth.
