The second chapter of the 'Brahmastra' franchise is reportedly taking shape, with Ranbir Kapoor set to return as the story moves deeper into the characters of Dev and Amrita.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Ranbir is expected to play both Dev and Shiva in the sequel. Deepika Padukone is reportedly set to portray Amrita, Dev's wife, while Alia Bhatt will have a considerably shorter role compared with the first film.
Ranbir is expected to begin work on 'Brahmastra 2' in April 2027, after completing his schedule for Ramayana.
Alia Bhatt's role to be shorter
Alia, who played Isha opposite Ranbir's Shiva in Brahmastra: Part One, is reportedly expected to shoot for around 25 days for the second instalment.
The sequel is said to have a planned shoot of approximately 125 days, with much of the narrative centred on Dev and Amrita. Their story was teased towards the end of the first film, setting up the next phase of the franchise.
While Alia's screen time will reportedly be limited in Brahmastra 2, her character is expected to have a larger role in Brahmastra 3. According to the report, she will share the parallel lead with Deepika in the third instalment.
Ranbir and Alia reunite in another film
Brahmastra 2 will not be the only project bringing Ranbir and Alia together again.
Alia is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Love & War', which also stars Ranbir and Vicky Kaushal. The film is scheduled to release in January 2027.
The actor was also seen in 'Alpha' and has reportedly been linked to the Hindi remake of 'The Housemaid', though the latter has not been confirmed.
Deepika has major projects ahead
Deepika Padukone, meanwhile, has several projects lined up. She is expected to feature alongside Shah Rukh Khan in King and will also star in Allu Arjun's 'Raaka'.
The original Brahmastra, released in 2022, featured Ranbir and Alia in the lead roles, with Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy also part of the cast. Shah Rukh Khan made a special appearance in the film.
