Samsung India layoffs begin: 80-100 executives in TV, home appliance businesses asked to leave

Up to 25% of Samsung India's electronics sales and marketing workforce could eventually be affected as the company restructures its consumer electronics operations, according to a report

Samsung Electronics has started cutting jobs in India, with around 80-100 executives in its television and home appliance businesses reportedly asked to leave, according to a report by The Economic Times.

The layoffs are being carried out in batches as the company deals with weaker consumer demand and pressure on margins. Those affected reportedly include director-level officials and team leads at the headquarters, as well as branch and area managers across its operating locations.

The report, citing multiple industry executives, said further job cuts could follow.

Up to 25% of sales, marketing workforce may be affected

An affected employee told ET that termination letters have been issued on a daily basis over the past few days. Employees being let go have reportedly been asked to leave without serving their notice periods.

As part of the severance package, Samsung is offering three months' salary along with an additional month's pay for every year of service, according to the report.

An executive told the publication that Samsung's electronics sales and marketing workforce comprises around 550-600 executives. Up to 25% of this workforce, including off-roll employees hired through manpower agencies, could eventually be affected.

“There’s manpower rationalisation in the home appliance and television businesses. The second round can happen after Diwali,” another executive added.

Smartphone business remains unaffected for now

Samsung's smartphone division, one of its most important businesses in India, is reportedly not part of the immediate layoffs.

“There will be no immediate job cuts in the mobile phone business as this is its bread and butter and the company expects a rebound in sales during Diwali. However, it might get evaluated later,” the executive added.

According to the latest data from IDC and Counterpoint Research cited in the report, Samsung had the second-largest smartphone market share in India in the second quarter of 2026, at around 16.4% and 17.6%, respectively.

Samsung has also cut jobs in US

The restructuring comes as Samsung has also been reducing its workforce in other markets.

In July, Reuters reported that the company had cut more than 700 jobs across its US display, smartphone and other consumer electronics operations, with many of the affected employees based in New Jersey and Texas.

Documents reviewed by Reuters showed that some employees were informed in late June about an “enterprise-wide reduction-in-force” that would have a “significant number of impacts”.

Samsung said the changes were aimed at optimising certain functions so that “our roles align to key business priorities”.
