India's manufacturing sector added more than 14 lakh workers during the financial year 2024-25, taking total employment beyond the 2 crore mark, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Wednesday. The figures reflected an expansion in employment across the country's organised manufacturing sector during the financial year.
The latest findings, released as part of the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), provide an overview of employment trends and industrial activity in India's registered factory sector. The survey is an important source of information on manufacturing performance, covering employment, wages, production and other economic indicators.
Employment growth reflects 'industrial expansion'
The addition of over 14 lakh workers marked an increase in manufacturing employment during FY25. The figures are significant as the government continues to emphasise domestic manufacturing, industrial investment and employment generation.
The ASI data covers registered factories rather than the entire manufacturing economy, which also includes numerous unregistered and informal enterprises. Its findings therefore provide an important measure of employment trends in the organised industrial sector but do not represent all manufacturing workers in the country.
