The Ambani family remains India’s richest business family with Rs 25.8 lakh crore, while the top family businesses are now worth Rs 138 lakh crore

The Mukesh Ambani family has retained its position as India’s richest business family, despite an 8.5 per cent decline in wealth, according to the 2026 Barclays Private Clients Hurun India Most Valuable Family Businesses list released on August 11.

The Ambani family’s wealth stands at Rs 25.8 lakh crore. The list also points to the growing strength of first-generation entrepreneurs, with the Gautam Adani family emerging as the richest in the category with a fortune of Rs 19.6 lakh crore.

Top family businesses worth $1.46 trillion

India’s leading family businesses have a combined value of $1.46 trillion, or Rs 138 lakh crore. Their total value is now higher than the GDP of Saudi Arabia and several European countries.

The businesses added nearly Rs 30 lakh crore in value since the 2024 edition, equivalent to around Rs 4,076 crore a day. Their combined value rose 27.5 per cent over the period, even as the Nifty 50 and Sensex remained in negative territory.

"India's most valuable family businesses are now worth $1.46 trillion, or Rs 138 lakh crore. To put that in perspective, if this list were a country, it would rank as the world's 18th-largest economy by GDP, larger than the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Poland," Hurun India's founder and chief researcher Anas Rahman Junaid said, PTI reported.

Sunil Bharti Mittal, promoter of telecom company Airtel, ranks third with a fortune of Rs 12.1 lakh crore. He is also the second-richest first-generation entrepreneur on the list.
