Priyanka Gandhi slams "inaction" in Bahraich violence, urges strict action from CM Yogi Adityanath

Following communal violence in Bahraich, Priyanka Gandhi calls for immediate action from CM Adityanath and urges the public to maintain peace, as tensions rise after one death and injuries

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the Uttar Pradesh administration on Monday for its "inaction" in dealing with the communal violence that erupted in Bahraich's Mahrajganj area during a Durga idol immersion procession. The violence, which broke out over a disagreement about loud music, resulted in the death of one youth and left several others injured due to stone-pelting and firing. Thirty people have been detained in connection with the unrest.

As tensions escalated on Monday, crowds armed with sticks and iron rods roamed the streets, setting shops on fire. In a post on X, Priyanka Gandhi expressed her concern in Hindi, calling the situation "sad and unfortunate." She appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take swift action and bring the culprits to justice.

"I appeal to the chief minister and the state administration to take immediate action, engage with the public to restore calm, and take the strictest measures against those responsible," Gandhi said in her post. She also urged citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to maintain peace. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the violence, stating that the guilty would not be spared, and assured that the administration was taking all necessary steps to restore order in the area.
