Blast near Delhi school sparks AAP criticism of BJP-led central govt's handling of law and order
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday criticized the BJP-led central government, claiming it is failing to maintain law and order in Delhi after a blast occurred near a school in the Prashant Vihar area. Though no one was injured in the incident, the explosion damaged a school wall, nearby shops, and a car, according to police.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi took to social media, accusing the BJP of spending more time obstructing the work of the elected government in Delhi than focusing on public safety. "The bomb blast outside a school in Rohini exposes the crumbling law and order situation in Delhi," she wrote, holding the central government responsible for the capital’s security.
Atishi further likened the current situation in Delhi to Mumbai during the 1990s underworld era, alleging an increase in violent crime, including shootings and gangster extortion, as a sign of deteriorating security.
At a press conference, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia echoed these concerns, accusing the BJP of neglecting its primary responsibility of keeping Delhi residents safe. Meanwhile, Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena for his absence at the blast site, questioning why he hadn't responded as he typically does in other public matters.
The AAP also highlighted an increase in criminal activities across the city and urged the BJP to prioritize public safety. The incident is under investigation, and forensic experts have sent a suspicious white powder found at the blast site for examination.
